6th grader from PAREF Rosehill School, radio guest at ‘Buhay, Pamilya at Bayan’
“I encourage all of our young listeners to go out, lead and serve, to contribute to a better Philippines,” said Karen Racelis, a 6th grader from PAREF Rosehill School in Antipolo. Last 19 February 2012, in the radio program “Buhay, Pamilya at Bayan”, aired every Sunday from 11am to 12nn at Radyo Mindanao Network (RMN), the host covered the topic “Pagsasanay ng mga Kabataan sa Pagiging Lider” [Training the Youngsters in Leadership] and invited 3 young leaders to be her guests. Racelis spoke about her leadership training experiences in PAREF Rosehill’s Young Leaders in Action (YLA): she said that training camps, regular outreach activities, urban and rural service projects, gift-giving and providing cheer to poor children, are among the many activities carried out from the leadership club. She said that she developed the slogan “LEAP” for next years Junior Student Council, which stands for “Leadership and Excellence through Allied Perseverance”, emphasizing the need for unity and harmony among students as well as the constant exercise of perseverance and hard work to achieve success in daily student leadership duties.
Racelis was joined on the radio program by Liezel Tamon (University of the Philippines Diliman freshman) and Joan Ponce de Leon (University of Asia and the Pacific freshman): the latter two are beneficiaries of LEAD Leadership Program under the auspices of the Kalinangan Youth Foundation (KALFI), a 4-year leadership training program for female University students that boasts of a personalized mentoring (one-on-one coaching) system and a focus on servant and moral leadership, in addition to allowances given to the students every Semester and regular Leadership Training Modules. “I admire the guidance, generosity and availability of my mentors, who give of themselves in order to guide me along the right path in what refers to my professional career, self-discovery, and areas for self-improvement,” said Ponce de Leon.
Racelis is among the finalists in the “Tang Galing Kids” awards competition, through which Tang wishes to recognize young children who can bring a refreshing change to the community. Seven of the 15 finalists are to receive a cash prize of P100,000 each. For details about PAREF Rosehill School, please visit: http://parefrosehill.org/.
